Block Fence Cost Factors

One of out favourite projects. This fence was completely custom. Started with the foundation, separated 8 foot sections with beautiful brick pillars along with wrought iron on top.
Are you interested in installing a block fence? If so, you likely want to know, “how much does a cinder block fence cost?” This is a good question. When trying to determine the asking price there are several factors to consider. The top factors that will impact block wall costs include the size of the job, conditions where the partition is being installed, and what finish options you choose.
Block Wall Cost Considerations

On average, the price to build a cinder block or concrete block wall will be approximately $565. Typically, concrete block fence cost ranges between $475 and $655, which is based on the price of $9 to $12 per square foot. This figure also includes labor and materials.

Usually, cinder block walls are used for constructing bearing barriers, retaining walls, fences, and foundations. It is possible to add a decorative façade to the concrete block wall, if you want to pay the additional fee, which usually ranges between $100 and $200.
The National Average Cost for Installing a Concrete Block Wall

While each area, including Mesa, AZ is unique, it is a good idea to have a general idea of the national average, to see how your area compares.

When it comes to block wall or block fence cost, the national average is $2.49 per square foot. The range is between $1.98 and $2.99 per square foot. When materials and labor are added into the price estimate, the price is (on average) $10.68 per square foot, with a range of $9.37 to $11.99. What this means is that a project that is 300 square feet in size will cost approximately $3,204.08 with the price range being between $2,809.93 up to $3,589.23. The actual value of the job is dependent on the factors mentioned above.
The Cost to Install a Cinder Block Wall

Like a concrete block wall, you have a cinder block wall. With this, the price varies based on several factors. On average, you can expect to pay between $1 up to $3 per block. If the asking price is calculated based on square footage, it is around $9 to $12 per square foot, including labor.

For example, if you were to install an eight foot by 15-foot cinder block wall, it would cost you (on average) between $1,080 and $1,440 for complete installation. Capstones are priced around $0.95 each. To determine the cinder block fence price, you must first determine the surface area of a single cinder block. This is going to help you determine how many cinder blocks are needed to build your partition. You can then multiply the value of a single cinder block by the total number you need for the wall. This will answer your question – how much does a block wall cost?
Determining the Cost of Your Block Wall

On average, you can expect to pay approximately $1,260. On the lower end of the spectrum, the value may be just $1,080 and the high end will be around $1,440.

It will cost about $3 up to $5.50 per square foot for the materials needed to install your cinder block wall. This is a fee that includes the blocks, mortar, and necessary structural reinforcements. Usually, the price of blocks is standard, but your area and the demand for these when you are having the enclosure constructed can impact the price you pay.

If there are other features that you want, this will come at an additional fee. For example, if you want a split-face block, which looks more like natural stone, you can expect to pay around $2.30 per block. If you decide to hire a professional contractor, you should expect to set your budget at about $570 for a simple wall.

Usually, this price will include everything – labor, materials, delivery, and any other charges. Make sure that you are aware that there are some factors, such as decorative features or higher barriers that will increase the value of the project. Also, retaining walls will be more to install because additional reinforcements are necessary to keep it secure and stable.
Costs for Concrete Blocks

The actual price you can expect to pay for concrete blocks is close to what you pay for cinder blocks. There are some manufacturers that use these two terms interchangeably. The primary difference is with the aggregate material, which is usually made from fine-crushed stone or sand if the block is called concrete “officially.” With this block option, you have something stronger and heavier than cinder blocks. While the durability is higher, it may be more challenging to work with, so keep this in mind.

When working with concrete blocks, you may hear them referred to as CMUs, which stands for concrete masonry units. The fee for these is dependent on the actual width of the block being used. For example, some price estimates for different sized blocks include:
  • $1.35 each for four to six-inch blocks
  • $1.50 for eight-inch blocks
  • $1.85 for 10-inch blocks
  • $2.05 for 12-inch blocks
This pricing scale assumes that the blocks you are being used are eight inches tall and 16 inches long. These blocks are the ones with the open cells, too. It is important to note, that the average costs above account for about 3/8 inch of mortar, which means the block’s actual dimensions are about 3/8 inch less than what is mentioned above.
Labor Cost Considerations for Installing a New Block Wall

When trying to figure out what it will price to install your block wall, the labor rates are dependent on who you hire. For areas where this type of work is in high demand (which is common in Mesa, Arizona), you will likely pay more for labor.
